1 of 2 tree tents Ynys Affalon is named after King Arthurs Island of Apples and is a the original green tree tent the other being Red Kite Tree Tent - W y Ddraig a red dragon s Egg as the name implies. Both are located off grid in this wonderful remote rural woodland location north of the Brecon Beacons. Each are set in their own private surroundings deep in Mid Wales and set among tall trees. You will find Ynys Affalon suspended like a pendant from a web of ropes. It s very well-located if you like long countryside walks through forests and valleys. The regions are punctuated by mountains and hills. The coast drive through the peaks to Aberystwyth on the west coast is recommended. For local shops and other amenities be sure to stop at Newbridge-on-Wye. Llandrindod Wells is worth a visit for it spa and museums. A former resort in Victorian times it has retained its look and much of its heritage. Another visitor highlight in the wider area is the buried jewel of the Brecon Beacons Dan-yr-Ogof Caves. Accessed via a small wooden bridge your comfortable gently swaying restful pod awaits with a wood burner to keep you warm throughout your stay (an initial supply of logs is provided). Imagine waking up in the cosy double bed to the sound of a bubbling stream flowing below your tent but with a view normally seen only by the birds. The bed can be folded into a large sofa during the daytime which along with a small desk can provide room for writing that novel. Lined with lambs wool insulated felt the tent is cool in the summer and warm in those cooler autumnal evenings. This really is a great place to hibernate and loose yourself should you not want to be out exploring. Back over the bridge leads you to an open facilities deck. This is home to your cooking area where you can create your one pot wonders or simply make your cup of tea or coffee in the morning a whistling kettle crockery cutlery and cafetiere are provided. In this outdoor kitchen area you will find a compact two burner gas hob and a sink with hot and cold water. There is also a camping fridge/cool box for convenience. Back to ground level you will find a fire pit perfect for evenings spent chatting around the fire. The timber clad enclosed open air shower area is found at the far corner of the facilities deck with electric shower. Up the slope a little for privacy is an enclosed WC. If accommodation is required for additional guests the second Tree Tent also sleeping 2 people is Red Kite Tree Tent - W y Draig. Parking is available approx. 100m away. With the tree tent down a stone path across the bridge and along a forest path.
